With excess breast fat centred around the nipple or areola, the chest appears fatty and the enlarged breast tissue may even sag, resulting in a misshapen, feminine-looking breast.
The “scarless” breast reduction surgery is suitable for patients with enlarged breasts but without significant excess skin.
At the beginning of the procedure, Dr Leo will make a small 4 mm cut on the side of each breast. Liposuction is then used to remove the fatty deposits and a special device known as a microdebrider is used to remove the fibrous glandular tissue.
The procedure uses dissolvable stitches that cannot be seen; and the skin eventually tightens to reveal a toned, well-defined chest. Results are immediately visible, and continue to improve over the weeks.
This is a day surgery procedure which only takes around 1.5 hours, and the minimally invasive approach allows patients to resume their normal activities after 1-3 days.
For patients with excess skin and poor skin elasticity, the “open” surgical approach for breast reduction may be recommended. A small periareolar incision is placed at the junction of the areola skin and the breast skin. Strategically placed, the incision will fade over time with no obvious scarring.
After excess fat and breast tissue are surgically removed, the skin will retract to a nice, firm appearance. This method allows for the excision of the gynaecomastia as well as the removal of any loose skin to obtain the desired chest contour. With excess skin removed, the breasts are properly reshaped, regaining a natural masculine appearance.
The day surgery procedure takes between 1-3 hours, with a recovery period of 1-4 days. Immediately after your procedure, you will notice a trimmer, more contoured chest profile.
